Perhaps I need a new hobby?

About a month ago upon becoming discouraged with home renovations (i.e. sick to death of painting!), I decided I wanted to learn how to quilt.

My grandmother quilted, my great grandmother quilted, my co-worker quilts, and I had this grandious impression that I could make the most beautiful things ever seen! I've always been artsy so this shouldn't be hard at all! And how lovely to have a CHEAP hobby for once, right?

WRONG-O!! You would never think it, or at least I didn't, that sewing would be so EXPENSIVE! Once you buy the thread, pins, measuring tape, washable pens for tracing patterns, scissors (yes, you need 'special' scissors), needles, rotary cutter if like me you are unable to cut a straight line, rotary cutting board (didn't think you could just use it on a table, did ya?), material, and pray to God that you can talk someone out of an old sewing machine - you will be BROKE!

To date, I have made one baby blanked sized quilt TOP. I need to buy flannel to use for the batting and some other matchy-matchy material for the backing. Flannel isn't cheap and quite frankly I believe I've lost interest all together.

Just having the knowledge that IF I ever wanted to make a quilt, I COULD leaves me satisfied with myself. See, old dogs and new tricks can go hand in hand!
